Irrigation & Nitrogen Management Plan (INMP) Worksheet Resources
Use this page to find tools and references organized by INMP Worksheet box number. Remember: the INMP Worksheet stays on-farm, while the INMP Summary Report is what you submit to your coalition each year.
Workflow Worksheet (keep) → Summary (submit)
Management Units Max 640 acres
Columns A = Plan, B = Actuals
Units Report per acre
Step 1: Define Management Units & Field Info
Management Unit (MU)
Group fields (≤ 640 acres) with the same crop, irrigation, and nitrogen management.- Keep a clear MU/Field ID that matches what you report in your Summary Report.
Step 2: Irrigation Management (Boxes 2–4)
Box 2 — Crop Evapotranspiration (ET)
Estimate seasonal crop water needs.Box 3 — Anticipated Irrigation (inches)
Planned applied water (account for ET, rainfall, leaching, and efficiency).- Document how you accounted for: crop demand, effective rainfall, leaching requirement, and irrigation efficiency.
- Use the same assumptions consistently within a management unit.
Box 4 — Irrigation Water N Concentration
Lab results may report nitrate as NO3 or NO3-N (different units).- Confirm the unit on the lab report before converting.
- See Box 10A for the calculator and certified lab list.
Step 3: Yield Targets (Boxes 6A–7A)
Box 6A — Production Unit
Define yield units clearly (e.g., dry tons, lbs, bins with a defined weight).- If using bins/lugs, document the weight per container.
Box 7A — Expected Harvested Yield
Use realistic history (often 3–5 year average; omit outliers).Step 4: Nitrogen Budget (Boxes 9A–14)
Box 9A — Soil Available N
Soil sampling guidance (keep sample notes and results with your worksheet).Box 10A — Nitrogen in Irrigation Water
Convert water N concentration + applied inches into lbs N/ac.Box 11A — Organic Amendments
Estimate plant-available N from compost/manure products.- Calculator for N Mineralization from Organic Amendments
- Keep product analyses and application records with the worksheet.
Box 12A — Dry/Liquid Fertilizer N
Convert fertilizer grade and rate to lbs N/ac.Box 13A — Foliar Fertilizer N
Include foliar nitrogen as an N input source.Box 14 — Total Nitrogen Budget
Sum all N sources and keep Plan (A) vs Actual (B) clear.- Total N includes irrigation water N and organic amendments (not only fertilizer).
- Keep entries consistent as lbs N per acre.
Efficiency: Applied vs Removed (A/R)
What A/R Uses
A/R compares nitrogen applied to nitrogen removed by harvested crop.- Applied (A): irrigation water N, organic amendments, fertilizers.
- Removed (R): actual yield × crop N removal factor.
Optional A/R Tool
Helpful for internal review and identifying trends.Certification & Recordkeeping
When Certification Applies
Certification may be required based on parcel vulnerability/outlier status.- Self-certification pathway (training + exam), or specialist certification.
- Check coalition guidance for your specific eligibility.
Keep for Inspection
Maintain supporting documents with your on-farm worksheet.- Keep lab results, calculations, and application records with the worksheet.
- Submit the Summary Report by your coalition deadline.
